Privacy and support
File Genie collects no data. It opens files on your iPhone or iPad, has no server, no account and no analytics, and makes no network requests of its own. The only place it puts your files is your own iCloud Drive.
The files you open
When you open a file from Files, File Genie reads it on your device and shows it. When another app shares a file to File Genie, like an attachment in Messages, File Genie also saves a copy in the File Genie folder of your iCloud Drive, so it's on your other devices too. Apple syncs that folder the way it syncs the rest of your iCloud Drive. File Genie sends your files nowhere else, and with iCloud Drive off it saves nothing there.
A file's own code can make requests of its own. If an HTML file loads a library or a font from the web, your device fetches it the way any web page would. Those requests come from the file, not from File Genie, and they only happen if the file was written to make them.
Links
Tap a link to another site inside a file and it opens outside File Genie, in Safari or whichever app you use for links. File Genie stays on your file.
What File Genie remembers
Recents keeps the last 15 files you opened, so you can get back to them. For each one it stores the file's name, its type, when you opened it and a pointer iOS uses to find the file again. The pointer is not a copy of the file. All of it stays on your device.
A file can save its own data too, like a to-do list's items, and libraries it loads from the web are cached. That also stays on your device.
Swipe a file in Recents to remove it. Deleting the app removes Recents. Files in the File Genie folder stay in your iCloud Drive until you delete them in Files.
Permissions
None. File Genie doesn't ask for your photos, contacts, location, camera or microphone, and it doesn't track you across apps.
Crash reports
If you've chosen to share analytics with app developers in Settings, Apple may pass me anonymous crash reports. That is Apple's system and your choice. File Genie adds nothing to it.
This page
No cookies. I count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which doesn't use cookies or record who you are. The App Store badge on the home page loads from Apple.
